Same Blog, New Look

As you can see I have given my blog a new look to mark what I hope is its return. I am so sorry it has been so long since my last post, but a lot of things have been going on in my life. A lot has happened in the past several months. We have celebrated a lot - Thanksgiving (I cooked my first Thanksgiving feast for the husband and myself), Christmas, and Mardi Gras (our first since being residents of NOLA). We have grieved a lot - my husband and I have lost a total of 3 grandparents between the two of us (you will be hearing more about my two grandmothers in subsequent posts, as I have inherited many things from the two of them). I had a health scare with a thyroid nodule my doctor found during a routine checkup and yes, praise the Lord, it was found to be benign! And finally I have embarked on a new career path. I have been accepted as a 2010 teachNOLA teaching fellow, which in a nutshell translates to me teaching elementary education in a New Orleans public school classroom in the fall. I went through a pretty intense interview process in order to be accepted into the program. I studied for and then took the Praxis II exam (standardized teacher's exam for those of you who may not know) in March in preparation for the program. I am currently attending career fairs, networking events, and filling out job applications in order to secure a teaching position along with doing some independent study work. In June I will begin a rigorous 6-week training institute that includes four weeks of student teaching. I am going to be very busy with all of this, and that is the only thing that gives me pause regarding restarting my blog. I have really missed sharing with you, and I have a lot of new things to write about. Look for another post around the first of next week. Thanks for reading, and happy thrifting!
